Native to the western U.S., this introduced species has become naturalized throughout the east.

Distinguished from Purple Finches by the lack of a face pattern, especially in the female. Males feature a pink-purple "unibrow".

Commonly found in residential neighborhoods and at feeders. Occasionally seen in Mammoth Cave N.P.
