Purple Finch
(Haemorhous purpureus)

​​A winter visitor only. Numbers vary widely from year to year.

Similar to House Finch; this species has a distinctive face pattern, present in both sexes, but more visible in females.

Best found in early spring, when first maple and elm tree seeds appear. Check visitor center clearing trees in late winter and early spring.
