Eastern Whip-poor-will
(Antrostomus vociferus)

Picture

This nocturnal species is much more frequently seen than heard.

Whip-poor-will populations are in decline across their range, due to the loss of their open forest habitat.

Mainly heard on bright, moonlit nights in late May and early June. Listen closely to separate this species from Chuck-will's-widow.
