Cedar Waxwing
(Bombycilla cedrorum)
Waxwings are rarely found alone; they are usually in flocks of 6 to 20 birds, or more.
They prefer open areas, feeding on berries and fruit.
Waxwings are largely nomadic, following the fruit supplies; may be found in our area any time of year.
Best found in the park between late April and mid-June, and again in September. Check the area near the locomotive on the visitor center lawn. Listen for their high, thin, trilling calls.
